From the moment of clicking on the apps icon on your home screen, you are drawn right into the application. With no splash screen and extremely fast loading time, the game starts almost instantly on an iPhone 4, and even faster on my iPad 2! The first impressions of the game are of a very high standard. The colours used throughout the main menu of the app are very relevant to the game its self, and are also very appealing to the target audience. The graphics are of a very high quality, and they are very smooth – no pixilation occurs apart from the graphic, which increases in size as soon as you launch the app. One thing that is very noticeable in the main menu screen is there is a lot of animation present. Usually animation can slow down the performance of the game, however the animation is of a very good standard and causes no negative effects on the running of the game. The graphics look extremely good on the retina display, and there is no visible pixilation when playing through the game or browsing through the menus. The graphics are also just as smooth on the iPads screen, and unlike those apps which are just stretched to fit the screen of the iPad, the layout of the app has been well thought through, and this means that there is no pixilation on the larger screen! Another graphical benefit of the game is that when you touch one of the in game buttons, you are presented with an animation of the button being pressed. This is a large advantage to the app, as the user will know that their touch has been recognised by the device, and that they don’t have to wait to see if it is loading, or to question if their touch was recognised. Because of the almost faultless graphics in this application, I give the graphics 5 out of 5.

The game features various sounds, which continue throughout, and others at different play sates of the game. The first audio aspect, which is present right from the opening off the app, to the pressing of the home button, is the background music. Usually in games, the background music is made to be catchy and ‘in your face’. Unfortunately with a lot of these apps, the music becomes very repetitive and extremely annoying; this makes me very pleased to report that the music soundtrack in this app is not annoying at all. I understand that no developer (even the big guys), has the time to compose a extremely long and un-repetitive sound track for their apps. However this app’s background music is repetitive – but in a subtle way. This means that it is hard to recognise a distinct start and end point for the track. Another main advantage of the use of audio in this application is for the notification of pressing an in game button. When you tap on a button to change the scene, or to navigate through a menu, you are notified of the receipt of your touch through a sound effect. This is very helpful, as you know that your touch has been acknowledged, and that the app is processing that information. The sound effects often overlay the background music, however with two distinctly different audio types and content system, it means that they stand out from each other. The music and sound effects are all very appealing to the target audience, and go well with the theme and colour schemes for the application. One thing I did pick up is that when the bugs are flying around, there was no buzzing sound or sound of movement, only the sound of you tapping on them. I think this could be an improvement to the game, as it would take away the audiences attention from focusing on the background music – increasing the chance of them finding it repetitive. Also like the notifications on pressing a button, there are sounds for tapping on the bugs. This is beneficial because your finger covers the bug when you tap it, so the sound lets you know that you have tapped it. Because of all of the great audio aspects of this application, I have given it a rating 4 out of 5.

One of the main things that makes this game stand out from other games that I have played is that it has very little to no lag! Through testing this application to review it, I did not come across any laggy areas in the game. Another thing that stands out is that the loading time is almost instant – it is very very fast. This is a huge benefit as it means you can get started playing the game almost instantly, without having to wait for different menus and screens to load. Since the game is the ‘Lite’ version, there is a limit to the features it offers, however it is still a very good playable game! One thing which makes it a good game is that it’s level of difficulty can make it become slightly addictive. This means that you will continuously go back and play more. However since it is a Lite version, the player is limited to a maximum high score of 5000. The addictiveness and smooth gameplay contributes to help making the game very appealing to its target audience. The gameplay is very simple, and is very easy to pick up – even without reading the instructions. This is also another factor, which contributes to the addictiveness of the game, as you do not have to read into how to play the game, it comes natural. The layout of the game is also very easy to understand, this is mainly aided by the excellent quality graphics. With the health bar on the left, it is clear to the user of what it is, and what it stands for. This also contributes to how easy the user can pick up the game controls. Another feature of the game, which I liked, was the ability to share your score via social networks, or through text message or email. This brings a whole new social aspect side to the game, and even through there is no multiplayer option, it allows you to compete against your friends, family, or even your work colleagues. The game also features a pause screen, which has a main menu button, and also a sound off / on button. This is located at the opposite side of the screen to the pause button – somewhere which is easy to access for quickly Turing the sounds off and on. Along with all these great features, the app also features a high score system, which saves all your previous scores and the dates of which you obtained them. This can be great for keeping track of your personal improvements, or comparing scores with friends.

This game is definitely worth the download! The game is very appealing to its target audience, and if you are a fan of causal games, then this could be the game for you! The game can become very addictive, and will probably lead you to wanting to purchase the full version of the game. The game has been created in a very professional way, and it is guaranteed to keep your entertained for a long time. When I was reviewing it, I was finding it hard to put my phone down and concentrate on my note taking, I just wanted to keep playing! The file size of the game was quite small, and only took around 30 seconds to download over a 3G connection! This means no matter where you are, get this app downloaded now! As well as all the other bonuses and benefits this game offers, its available as a universal app – it works on the iPhone , iPod Touch, and the iPad!
